Newcastle United are confident that they are about to sign Arsenal’s Joe Willock this summer, the Express say.

Confidence building

Newcastle had Willock on loan from Arsenal last season and they have made no secret of their desire to bring the midfielder back.

The Magpies are yet to make a breakthrough in any transfer.

However, the latest reports suggest that they are confident that a deal is ready to be done with Arsenal now.

If Willock does move to Newcastle then he could be a particularly appealing addition for Steve Bruce’s side.

Second spell?

The 21-year-old made a huge impact last term, when he scored eight goals in 14 matches from midfield, which led to him being labelled an ‘incredible’ talent by Newcastle’s local press.

It was thought that those figures may have convinced Arsenal to keep hold of Willock this term.

However, Mikel Arteta has brought in Albert Sambi Lokonga to add to his midfield ranks this summer, meaning Willock seems unlikely to get much first-team action.

And after proving he was ready to make an impact at Premier League level last term, it may be that sitting on Arsenal’s bench doesn’t appease the prospect any more.

If Willock does leave Arsenal he could be one of a number of the Gunners’ players to make an exit, with Edu and Mikel Arteta seemingly looking to clear out their squad.
