Report claims why Arsenal haven’t made concrete bid for Celtic star

A report from The Athletic has claimed why Arsenal haven’t pursued Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard with any real substance.

The Gunners have watched the Frenchman several times but apparently hold some reservations.

Edouard could leave Celtic this summer and has a long list of admirers vying to secure his services.

It would appear that he isn’t towards the top of Arsenal’s list of targets though.

The Athletic suggest that staff at the Emirates Stadium have doubts over hit work rate and fitness levels.

It is believed that Arsenal think he’d have to alter those considerably in order to thrive in the Premier League.

Leicester have shown a key interest. Some reports have suggested they could land the Celtic man for as little as £15 million.

Brendan Rodgers knows all about Edouard’s qualities having signed him during his time in charge of Celtic.

The 23-year-old does have a superb record north of the border. He has found the net 83 times in 168 appearances for the Hoops, leading the team to three league titles.

Having lost their grip on the Scottish Premiership to Rangers, they could now cash in on the striker.

It now appears as though Arsenal will look elsewhere, however, paving the way for someone else to pounce.

Arsenal could rue not signing Celtic striker Edouard

Given that Arsenal don’t have European football on the table next season, they might have to be savvy in their quest to sign players.

Adding Edouard for £15 million might have proved a decent addition, especially considering his current wage of just £20,000-a-week.

Even with a significantly higher salary he’d still be affordable to the Gunners and they could count the cost of this decision.

Arsenal would have had a full pre-season to get Edouard up to the required level of fitness and time will tell whether they regret this choice in the future.
