Report claims Tottenham’s plan to sign Giovani Lo Celso for £44.5m, player has told Pochettino he wants move

Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on the transfer of Giovani Lo Celso this summer and a report in Spain has highlighted the club’s plan to secure a deal.

El Desmarque Sevilla has stated that the Premier League side are playing a waiting game regarding a potential deal for the Argentine international.

The report claims his club Real Betis have to sell Lo Celso this summer. After spending big on French international Nabil Fekir, the midfielder’s sale is necessary to balance the books.

Tottenham will reportedly hope to tempt Betis with a €50 million (£44.5m) offer for the player just before the close of the British transfer window. Knowing that Betis need to sell, Tottenham are hopeful Los Verdiblancos will not risk gambling on another buyer entering from elsewhere in Europe, where the transfer window shuts at the start of September.

The report also claims that Lo Celso has already informed Mauricio Pochettino that he wants to move to Tottenham.

As reported by the London Evening Standard, Betis’ current valuation of the player is at £67 million. So Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is certainly looking for a big reduction on that initial asking price.

Tottenham, who have already signed Jack Clarke and Tanguy Ndombele this season, are also being linked with Argentine compatriot Paulo Dybala of Juventus.

But it seems the club are not going to pay immediate asking prices for either player, as they stick to the Tottenham method of aggressively negotiating the best possible deal.

Hopefully, this tactic will work out, as bringing in Lo Celso for £44.5 million would represent good business from the North London club.
