Report claims Tottenham Hotspur prefer Max Aarons transfer over Youcef Atal because of homegrown player status

Tottenham Hotspur are set to look for a new right-back in the next transfer window. The club have failed to replace Kieran Trippier since his summer exit to Atletico Madrid with regular first-teamer Serge Aurier a defensive liability.

With that in mind, Tottenham are more than likely to go hunting for a new right-back whenever the transfer window reopens.

Two names that have often been mentioned as being on Tottenham’s wishlist are Norwich City’s Max Aarons and Nice’s Algerian dynamo Youcef Atal.

Now a report from Football.London has highlighted which of the pair Tottenham prefer.

It seems that a move for Aarons is the preferred option at Tottenham Hotspur, because of his status as a homegrown player.

Tottenham’s current first-team squad is low on players who fulfill the criteria, with even England international Eric Dier failing to meet the criteria having come through the youth ranks of Sporting Lisbon.

In the past, it has seen Tottenham a man light in their Champions League squads to fulfill the quota.

It seems that gives Aarons, who came through the youth ranks at Luton Town and then-current club Norwich.

He won’t come cheap, with Football.London suggesting he carries a £30 million valuation back in January. However, it seems he is the number one choice when it comes to strengthening a major problem position in the summer.
