Report claims Sokratis has had no talks about Arsenal transfer exit

There have been many reports this summer regarding the potential sale of Sokratis Papastathopoulos. However, according to a report from Goal, the Gunners have not yet spoken to the Greek international regarding a potential exit from The Emirates.

There have been reports recently that Arsenal are ready to sell the 32-year-old, who joined the club in a £17.6 million (Guardian) move from Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

Since then, the versatile defender has been a fairly regular member of the Arsenal starting XI but did find himself on the sidelines in the weeks before the global health crisis enforced a lockdown and football was suspended.

But despite this, Arsenal have not held talks with Sokratis over a transfer. Goal seem to suggest that there has been no communication regarding a move away from North London and, at the moment, it would seem the experienced defender will be sticking around.

Speaking to BT Sport in March, as reported by Metro, Mikel Arteta praised Sokratis for his ability to play in a number of positions and the attitude he shows in such situations.

“…For certain games, he is very helpful and he always has the right attitude and he has the qualities to play there in essential moments when we need him.”

So clearly the Spaniard sees him as a useful member of the first-team going forward and whilst some Arsenal fans may have been happy to see him go, Sokratis looks increasingly likely to be sticking around this summer.
