Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is now actively considering other midfield options as a deal to bring Bongani Zungu to Ibrox looks to be on the verge of collapse, according to reports.
The Daily Record previously reported that Rangers had agreed a £3.5 million deal to sign the South African international. Le11 Amienois then stated that Zungu was missing from pre-season at his current club as the move to Rangers was ‘close’.
However, Rangers appear to have hit some sort of snag. The Scottish Sun reported issues establishing personal terms for the Bafana Bafana international and Gerrard was said to be considering alternative Ibrox transfer options.

Now, according to Courier Picard, the reason for Rangers’ decision to pull the plug has seemingly been revealed.
The report claims that Rangers had indeed agreed the details of a deal for the Amiens midfielder.
However, after he completed his medical, it is claimed Rangers felt the player was ‘overweight’ and decided not to conclude the deal.
Zungu is now stuck in limbo as he has been frozen out at the French club, who were seemingly prepared to cash in on the South African international.
As for Rangers, they will need to find a new midfield target to fill the engine room at Ibrox, a position Gerrard is keen on improving at the Glasgow club.
