Rangers could be ready to make a renewed bid to bring the South African international Bongani Zungu to Ibrox this summer, according to a report.

Steven Gerrard is on the hunt for a new midfielder at Rangers to help strengthen his Ibrox options in the middle of the park.

For a long time, it appeared that Zungu was set to be the man Rangers were ready to recruit.

The Daily Record previously reported that Rangers had agreed a £3.5 million deal to sign the South African international. Le11 Amienois then stated that Zungu was missing from pre-season at his current club as the move to Rangers was ‘close’.

The deal never happened. The Scottish Sun suggested it was an issue over personal terms and that Rangers boss Gerrard was ready to consider other options.

But Courier Picard later claimed that Rangers pulled the plug after he was considered overweight at his Rangers medical.

Whatever the reason, Rangers did not move for Zungu but he is still available and, according to the Scottish Sun, Rangers could be triggered into negotiating with French side Amiens again.

The report carries quotes from the club’s president, who insists Zungu has to be sold to raise money and that his price-tag might be reduced.

With that in mind, Rangers are said to be reconsidering a move for the international midfielder.

Whether or not the Light Blues would be ready to find an agreement for the player remains to be seen, considering the previous deal collapsed. But Rangers appear to have a chance to make this deal finally happen.
