Report claims prospective Arsenal manager was told not to touch club ‘with a barge pole’

The Independent has released a damning report on the state of affairs at Arsenal, including one extremely critical comment regarding the advice given to a previous managerial candidate.

Arsenal have returned to Premier League action with defeats against both Manchester City and Brighton.

The Gunners have also handed out odd contract extensions to Cedric Soares and David Luiz, despite the injury record and poor form of both, respectively.

Mikel Arteta faces a tough summer, with Arsenal struggling to do any real transfer business and with a host of players seemingly unwanted but unable to be sold due to their respective asking prices and wages. Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette, for example.

The Spaniard is certainly in a tough spot as he tries to turn around the fortunes of a club in turmoil.

If he had one agent, Arteta would have been warned off.

The Independent is reporting that a potential replacement for Unai Emery was told by his agent not ‘to touch Arsenal with a barge pole right now’.

That was reportedly due to the club’s current player recruitment policy, the hierarchy currently at The Emirates, bloated squad, and increased involvement of ‘superagent’ Kia Joorabchian.

It is damning that an agent would currently tell his client, who is unnamed in the report, to reject a massive club like Arsenal.

The Gunners were linked with several big names when looking for their Emery replacement, and any number of those names could indeed be the man in question.

Regardless of who it is, it is a condemning indictment of Arsenal’s current state of affairs.
