Newcastle United will have to pay a fee in the region of €25 million (£22.8m) if they want to sign Brazilian defender Marcao from Galatasaray this summer.
The Magpies were linked with a move for the player by A Spor and Turkish Football at the end of last month with the Turkish giants said to be wanting a fee in the region of £13 million.
But it seems that price-tag was off base.

According to a new report from FotoMac, one of Turkey’s more reputable sources, Galatasaray are adamant on a £22.8 million fee for the Brazilian with Newcastle, Roma and Lyon all said to be keen on the 24-year-old.
Newcastle have been pushing hard to bring in another centre-back this summer and saw a loan deal for Rob Holding of Arsenal fall apart earlier this month.
It is clear that the club feel the need to bring in some reinforcements in that area but the figures being quoted for Marcao appear to be inflated.
Newcastle have done some shrewd business this summer and will want to keep it that way by bringing in a defender on an affordable amount or, like it seemed the case would be with Holding, on loan.
So Newcastle fans might want to take these latest reports regarding a move for Marcao with a pinch of salt.
