Report claims Newcastle United are not giving up on Facundo Pellistri signing

Newcastle United are not willing to give up on a potential move for Uruguayan wonderkid Facundo Pellistri, according to a report from Diario AS.

The report is claiming that Newcastle remain keen on the player, with the project still ‘on the table’ for the 18-year-old talent.

However, any move for his services is currently at the will of the takeover process at St James’ Park, with a Saudi-backed consortium’s bid to buy the club currently in motion.

The main news from the article is that Premier League rivals Manchester City are leading the race for the player. It is suggested that Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Pellistri and that City are willing to pay a figure in the region of €11 million (£9.8m) for his services.

They would then loan him out, most likely to Spain, with the player getting a decisive say in his next location.

Real Madrid’s interest is also touched on, but the Spanish giants apparently have no current plans to pursue their interest in the talented teen.

Newcastle United are seemingly hoping to challenge City to the mantle of the Premier League’s richest club in the coming months and would certainly enjoy beating their potential new transfer rivals to this exciting young star.

Fans should certainly hope that is the case, as Pellistri looks increasingly like Uruguay’s next big star.
