The Scottish Sun has claimed that Dan Petrescu would jump at the chance to join Celtic as manager following Neil Lennon’s resignation, days after leaving Turkish SuperLig side Kayserispor for family-related reasons.

Petrescu, 53, is well-known on these shores having clocked up more than 200 appearances for Chelsea and also turning out for the likes of Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City. He also earned 95 caps for Romania.

He has also enjoyed a very successful stint in management. He was managing in his seventh country, after spells in Romania, Russia, China, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Poland. He won two of his eight games with Kayserispor.

Petrescu was linked with Celtic in December, when he quit CFR Cluj. Now, the Scottish Sun claim he would ‘jump at the chance’ to join the Hoops – even though Petrescu has only just left Kayserispor, despite only eight games in charge.

TBR’s view – Petrescu would be a very wise appointment

Petrescu is a huge name. Enormous experience as both a player and a manager, and one that had 95 caps for his country during his playing days – Petrescu has a big reputation, but Celtic would certainly be his biggest job.

He has more than earnt it, though. He won the Romanian title three times in a row – 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20. Once again looking for a new job, following his Kayserispor exit, Celtic could do a lot worse than to pounce for the experienced gaffer.
