Report claims Liverpool-linked Nicolo Barella is Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest regret

Nicolo Barella is reportedly interesting Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United as he continues to sparkle under the guidance of ex-Chelsea bos Antonio Conte at Inter Milan – but a recent report claims Barella is Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest regret.

Barella, 23, has emerged as a target for the aforementioned Premier League trio – along with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid – after he surpassed 50 appearances for Inter since joining the club, initially on loan, in the summer of 2019.

An obligatory £45million (Football Italia) deal was completed in September, and he continues to shine in blue and black. Said form has not gone unnoticed, and FCInterNews state he is being targeted by Jurgen Klopp, among others.

The report also states that Inter are trying to convince him to stay, increasing his current £43,000-a-week to £70,000. But the interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, even bigger than Inter, may tempt Barella into leaving the Nerrazzuri.

Liverpool are keen, but a CalcioMercato report suggests that the player himself is Everton manager Ancelotti’s biggest Napoli regret. That is because he tried to sign Barella for Napoli before Inter did, in 2019 – and has since watched him blossom.

TBR’s view – Liverpool can increase Ancelotti regret

Signing Barella would increase that regret, because it means Ancelotti would have to watch Barella shine for his current side’s biggest rivals. If Barella joined Liverpool and impressed, Ancelotti’s regret would only grow.

It would be a double hit for Liverpool if they were to sign Barella, then. Nabbing the Italian would be a huge bonus for their midfield, but it would also send a crushing blow to Ancelotti’s improving Everton.
