Leeds United are apparently one of the Premier League sides to have made an enquiry for Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite, with Spanish outlet Sport reporting that West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion have also asked about the 29-year-old.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have made an encouraging start to life back in the Premier League. And that has largely been down to the impressive form of Patrick Bamford, who has seven goals already.
Leeds also signed Rodrigo Moreno in the summer. And the Spaniard has been impressive in the number 10 role so far.
Nevertheless, it would appear that the Whites are keen to strengthen their attacking ranks further.
According to Sport, they have made contact with Barca concerning Braithwaite. And they are not the only side looking at the Dane.
Sport notes that the Hammers tried to sign the attacker in the summer. On that occasion, Barcelona demanded around £16.1 million, and that reportedly put the club off. However, they are now back in the running.
And the Irons face competition from former boss Slaven Bilic.
Sport adds that Ronald Koeman’s side have no choice but to offload players to reduce their wage bill. And they would be open to a loan move.
However, it is claimed that Braithwaite is reluctant to leave the Nou Camp.
TBR View: Leeds moving for Braithwaite would be big surprise
As things stand, it is difficult to see Leeds confirming their interest with a bid. The Whites have tended to do little in January during Bielsa’s time in charge.
Signing a 29-year-old for a position in which Leeds already boast depth surely goes against Bielsa’s approach.
Some fans may feel that the Whites could do with more options. Leeds would arguably be in some trouble if they lost Bamford and Rodrigo at the same time.
However, Bielsa has shown that he is more than happy to put his faith in Tyler Roberts. And he has shown little desire to work with a bloated squad.
And with Braithwaite reportedly keen to stay put, an Elland Road move really looks unlikely at this stage.
