Last summer, Leeds United’s transfer business under Marcelo Bielsa kicked off with a Chelsea loanee.
The player in question was Lewis Baker, and he arrived with an excellent reputation.
The England under-21 star had thrived in the Dutch league during a loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem. Spells in England at Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons and, most recently, Middlesbrough had however been less of a hit.
So Baker arrived at Leeds with something to prove.
But it was clearly not a success.

The midfielder struggled to hold down a place in the Leeds starting XI and certainly failed to win over the fanbase at Elland Road.
In January, despite Marcelo Bielsa wanting to keep hold of him, Baker rescinded his loan contract with Leeds in order to join Reading.
“Maybe he felt we did not value him at the right level.
“The only time I talked to him about this subject I not only told him I wanted him to stay with us, I told him even into the next year I wanted to keep him, but I understand he took another decision.”

His spell at the Madejski Stadium was certainly more impressive. Baker played a key role in keeping the Royals safe from relegation in the final months of the season.
Now it seems the Leeds flop is heading back abroad to try and find his best form. Fortuna Dusseldorf appears to be the location for the 24-year-old talent. As reported by RP Online, Baker is already at the team’s training camp hotel in Austria ahead of sealing a deal.
Whilst Baker was never immensely popular among the Leeds fans nobody will begrudge him any success in Germany this season.
Hopefully, he can rediscover the scintillating form he showcased in the Netherlands.
