Report claims Leeds United did make bid for Borna Barisic this summer

Leeds United found themselves being linked with a move for Rangers left-back Borna Barisic earlier this summer.

The Whites have been linked with potentially bringing in another left-back for their Premier League campaign and the Croatian appeared to be an early target.

It even prompted a response from Rangers boss Steven Gerrard last month, when he told his Rangers press conference that there had been no contact regarding a deal for Barisic.

However, a report this week from the Croatian press has seemingly contradicted that claim, by stating that Leeds did indeed have an offer for the 27-year-old set-piece specialist rejected.

The report from Sportske Novosti claimed that Leeds had a €9 million (£8m) bid for Barisic rejected and that they did not follow up on the offer.

A report at the time from 90min suggested that the Glasgow club valued Barisic at £22 million, a fee Leeds were seemingly not willing to pay.

Instead, Leeds have strengthened well in other areas, with Rodrigo Moreno and Robin Koch recently joining a list of talented youngsters to head to Elland Road.

Barisic has remained at Rangers and enjoyed a decent start to the season at Ibrox.

Leeds may end up making a move for another left-back but it appears that the two clubs simply had extremely varying valuations when it came to this potential deal.

Barisic, it seems, will not be ending up at Elland Road anytime soon.
