Report claims Kristoffer Ajer is on three-man transfer shortlist for AC Milan

Kristoffer Ajer remains a transfer target for AC Milan, according to a report from Tuttosport in Italy.

The Celtic defender has been attracting plenty of interest in recent months after impressive form for the Scottish champions.

Now, the Norwegian is on the radar of the Italian giants, but Celtic can at least rest easy in the knowledge no contact has been made yet.

SempreMilan relays the information from Tuttosport that Milan has a three-player shortlist to strengthen their centre-back options this summer.

It is reported that PSG defender Tanguy Kouassi and Fiorentina colossus Nikola Milenkovic are currently on their radar. The report claims Milan have made contact regarding those signings but, at the moment, they are simply monitoring the situation regarding Ajer.

Kouassi, who is a free agent this summer, now looks set to join Bayern Munich this summer, as reported by Goal.

That bumps Ajer up Milan’s shortlist and Celtic may indeed have a tough time keeping hold of the Norwegian this summer.

A report Calciomercato in March suggested that Celtic would demand a €40 million (£36m) fee for the player, but that might have reduced due to the global health crisis.

Celtic will no doubt be hoping to keep hold of Ajer this summer. Bhoys boss Neil Lennon commented in March, as reported by the Scottish Sun, that Celtic will not be bullied into the sale of Ajer, after the player’s agent suggested he would be leaving Parkhead this summer.

“Kris has never given any indication he wants to leave. He’s been playing very well, been very consistent.

“We have him tied down to a long-term contract so we’ll decide, not anyone else.”

With Milan no longer able to pay the mammoth fees they might have in the past, Celtic fans can perhaps relax regarding this news.

But with Kouassi now off the table, the Italian giants are more likely than ever to get moving for the 22-year-old.
