Inter Milan are reportedly interested in a move for Hellas Verona goalkeeper Marco Silvestri. According to a report from FCInterNews, the Italian giants have their eyes on the player as a potential second-choice option for Samir Handanovic at the San Siro.

Silvestri has been in fine form for Verona this season, with the second-highest ratio of clean sheets in the league behind AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma. He is also out of contract in 2021, meaning he would likely be an affordable option.

However, the news might have Leeds United somewhat perplexed.

Silvestri joined Leeds in 2014 from Chievo in a deal worth around £400,000 (as reported by the Yorkshire Post). He went on to have an eventful spell at Elland Road. During that time, he showcased his undoubted shot-stopping ability but was also considered something of a liability by Leeds fans.

He was prone to an error and struggled to deal with crosses in the physical nature of the Championship.

After two seasons as Leeds number one Silvestri lost his place to Rob Green under Garry Monk and headed to Verona in 2017.

However, when Leeds signed him, former chairman Massimo Cellino claimed on the Leeds website that Silvestri was ‘one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe’.

Now, after having time to progress, Silvestri has clearly started to emulate that initial assessment and is looking more and more like the talent Leeds United hoped he would become.

No Leeds fans would begrudge him this big move should Inter Milan actually come calling.
