Daniel Sturridge is reportedly growing increasingly keen on a move to join boyhood club Aston Villa, according to reports.

The injury-plagued star had a fairly successful season fitness wise at Liverpool. However, he struggled for regular first-team football at Anfield and was allowed to leave on a free transfer this summer.

Plenty of clubs have been mentioned as potential destinations for the player, including Aston Villa.

Now, as reported by The Sun, it appears this deal could happen. The report claims that the chance to be Villa’s ‘main man’ and to prove a point in the Premier League ‘has growing appeal’.

Aston Villa are still believed to be in the hunt for another striker. Wesley Moraes arrived at the club from Club Brugge this summer as a replacement for loanee Tammy Abraham.

But having a player with proven experience in the Premier League would be a huge coup for Aston Villa.

Sturridge also has local ties to the club. The 29-year-old is from Birmingham and spent time on Villa’s books as a boy.

One major sticking point would surely be Sturridge’s wages. As reported by The Mirror in March, Sturridge was on £120,000-a-week at Liverpool and would surely expect a comparative salary at Villa Park.

But if Aston Villa could find a happy compromise this could prove a bargain piece of business.
