Everton have been linked with a move for Premier League veteran Branislav Ivanovic recently, but it seems fans can forget about seeing the Serbian shoring up the Toffees backline for 2020-21.
It was a deal that would make sense. As reported by Novosti, Everton were in the final stages of talks to sign the 36-year-old, who would arrive on a free transfer from Zenit St Petersburg.
Not only would he bring experience to the Everton backline and at a reduced price, Carlo Ancelotti is fully aware of the player’s talents.
Ivanovic won the Premier League title at Chelsea with Ancelotti as his manager.
“Ancelotti is very different (to Jose Mourinho),” Ivanovic was quoted as telling the press by ESPN in 2017. “If players had a choice, I guess they would prefer to spend the entire career with Carlo. He is very calm and takes all the negative aspects on him, allowing the players to be comfortable.”

Unfortunately, there will be no reunion for the pair.
The Liverpool ECHO has poured cold water over the apparent interest from Everton in the 105-cap international. They claim Everton have zero interest in the veteran.
Instead, as reported by Blic, Ivanovic is expected to return to his homeland with a potential move to Red Star Belgrade on the cards.
Whilst Ivanovic, as a three-time Premier League winner, would have undoubtedly added something to the Everton dressing room, fans at Goodison Park will not likely lose any sleep over this news.
Everton fans want the club to target new and exciting recruits and Ivanovic’s impact at this point in his career would have been several limited.
