Everton are willing to give Jonas Lossl another chance to fight Jordan Pickford for the number one goalkeeper spot at Goodison Park next season.
That is according to a report from the Liverpool Echo, who suggest the Dane will return to Everton at the end of his loan spell at former club Huddersfield Town and fight for his first-team place.
Everton signed the Dane on a free transfer last summer to support number one Pickford. As reported by Esktra Bladet, he signed a £53,000-a-week deal.
However, Lossl could not find regular football at Everton under Marco Silva or his replacement Carlo Ancelotti. The 31-year-old did not even get first-team football in the cup competitions, with Pickford still considered number one.
He returned to his former club after Liverpool loanee Kamil Grabara suffered a bleed on the brain after a collision in January.
Lossl is said to be determined to fight for the number one spot at Everton and, in January, it was suggested that Ancelotti was not overly convinced with the performances of the England number one Pickford, giving Lossl hope.
“I see it as a big and fantastic challenge…
“I believe 100 percent that I can become a first-team player here. Whether it is while Jordan (Pickford) is here or when he’s gone, I don’t know. But I believe it.”
The report also claims that Joao Virginia will be the club’s number three, with Maarten Stekelenburg to be released.
In September, Lossl told Tipsbladet in his homeland that he was confident in his ability to push Pickford out of the number one spot at Everton.
Now it appears the 6ft 5ins star will get the chance to do just that by Ancelotti next season.
Everton fans will no doubt hope Lossl can inspire Pickford to find his best level once again.
