Everton players were reportedly ‘astonished’ that the club did not buy a new striker this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
The report states a source at the club as stating that the Everton players enjoy working under Marco Silva but were shocked the club did not bring in another striker to score the goals clearly lacking at Everton.
Everton did, of course, spend big money on a new striker this summer. Moise Kean arrived from Juventus in an eye-catching deal.
However, the Italian international is just 19-years-old and is not yet ready to lead the Everton goalscoring charge.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also at the club and trusted by Marco Silva. However, despite his recent double against Sheffield Wednesday, he is not a potent threat.
Richarlison plays better from wide whilst Cenk Tosun has struggled to find regular form at Goodison Park.
So it is something of a shock that Everton did not bring in an experienced Premier League goalscorer. The report makes mention of Danny Welbeck, a free agent who was linked with Everton in the summer, but he is now at Watford.
Everton fans will hope that Kean can find his feet whilst Richarlison can find his spark. If so, then goals should soon flow, especially if DCL can up his game.
If not, then that ‘astonished’ reaction from the players will be justified.
