Report: Claims Everton are looking to sign White are 'not true'
Reports Everton are chasing a £50m move for Ben White are not true, according to Liverpool Echo.
The Merseysiders have been linked with hijacking Arsenal’s bid to sign the Brighton and Hove Albion ace.
According to The Sun, the Blues offered to match the Seagulls’ asking price for the defender. As a result, it was claimed White was left impressed by the speed of Everton’s bid.
It came amidst reports that the Gunners were close to sealing a move for the 23-year-old.
However, the Merseyside publication have claimed that Rafa Benitez’s side aren’t chasing the England international.
TBR View: Everton could use more defenders after White move labelled ‘not true’
Everton could use some more central defenders amid reports their move for White is ‘not true’.
Last summer the club fixed the midfield and attacking areas of the pitch.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan joined as Everton strengthened the heart of their midfield. It was followed by the transfer of Colombian star James Rodriguez in a move that added creativity.
And after a desperately poor campaign last term, it’s time to fix the defence. Aside from Michael Keane, who enjoyed a fine season, centre-half was a real problem.
Mason Holgate endured a year where his performances were just as inconsistent as his positioning. The 24-year-old swapped between right-back and centre-back all season-long in a less than desirable season.
Meanwhile, Yerry Mina could rarely stay fit during a term plagued with injuries. The Colombia international has yet to complete an injury-free season during his time at Goodison Park.
Ben Godfrey was a great addition in defence from Norwich City. But, he spent most the season filling in for Everton’s lack of a right-back.
So on the face of it, a move for White would be a desirable transfer for Everton this summer.
