Dele Alli is set to start for Tottenham in tonight’s Europa League clash with Wolfsberger, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The attacking midfielder has been out of the frame all season and was linked with a loan move to PSG during the January transfer window.
Game time has come at a premium for the England performer and it’s fair to say he’s battling to save his Tottenham career.
Tonight could be his chance though, with Jose Mourinho preparing to shuffle his pack for the game with the Austrian outfit.
Ferdinand Feldhofer’s team are sixth in the Austrian Bundesliga and Tottenham will be looking for a firm advantage ahead of the second leg.
Alli is set to get the nod to start with some of Mourinho’s regular first-team players likely to get themselves a rest.
The 24-year-old has played 14 times in all competitions this season, with six coming in the way of starting berths.
Alli has been a good player for Tottenham since checking in from MK Dons in 2015. He has played 236 games, scoring 64 goals and claiming 57 assists.
Things haven’t yet worked out for him under Mourinho and he will hope to grasp his chance with both hands.
TBR View: Alli needs to show boss he’s ready for Premier League start
The man with 37 England caps hasn’t started a top-flight game since the 1-0 defeat to Everton on the opening day of the campaign.
He will be desperate to force his way back in and a strong performance tonight could throw him into contention.
The £100,000-a-week ace still has a lot of fans on his side and given Tottenham’s poor form of late, he needs to mix it up.
That could start with Alli coming in from the cold. The ball is now firmly in the player’s court.
