Report claims Danny Rose was ‘ready to walk away’ from Tottenham for Watford move

Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose was prepared to join Watford this summer, according to The Sun.

The England international was left out of Tottenham’s tour of Asia in pre-season. The club stated in an official statement that he was being afforded a chance ‘to explore prospective opportunities with other clubs’.

It came after several years of speculation over his future at Tottenham. As reported by The Guardian, he was valued at £25 million by Spurs.

However, no deal was ever found for Rose and he was welcomed back into the first-team fold.

The Sun, however, is using his apparent desire to leave the club as another indicator of unrest in the current Tottenham dressing room.

They state that Rose was ‘ready to walk away’ from the beaten Champions League finalists and join Watford. The Independent reported at the start of August that Tottenham had rejected a £14 million bid from the Hornets for Rose. Now it appears Rose would have left for Vicarage Road had Tottenham found an agreement with Watford.

The Hornets will no doubt wish they had managed to secure a deal for Rose, considering their woeful start to the new season.

For Tottenham on the other hand, it is yet another show of just how confusing the current situation is in the dressing room. With question marks over the heads of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Victor Wanyama’s long-term futures at the club, as well as Kieran Trippier’s summer departure, it is clear not all is as it seems in North London.

Rose’s apparent willingness to quit Spurs and downgrade for Watford again highlights that point.
