Celtic and Rangers both reportedly had scouts watching Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland this weekend, according to reports.
The Daily Record is reporting that Celtic and Rangers scouts Tosh McKinlay and Billy McLaren respectively were both at Tannadice watching the former Ayr United striker.
The report adds that Celtic and Rangers both watched him last season, as he fired in 34 goals in the Scottish Championship.
Neither club lured him to Parkhead or Ibrox once his contract expired however, as Shankland also turned down the opportunity to head to England in order to join Dundee United.

He has started this season in similar form and both Old Firm scouts would have been impressed with his weekend performance.
Shankland scored a hat-trick in the 6-0 win over Greenock Morton, taking his tally for the season to 15 goals in 12 games.
TBR’s View
Celtic and Rangers are right to be keeping tabs on Shankland, who is scoring goals for fun in the Scottish Championship.
But they could have got him for free this summer. The striker was available after his contract with Ayr expired and, as reported by The Chronicle, both clubs were keen on his signature.
Perhaps they were not yet sure if he was ready for the step up but his performances at Tannadice so far this season might have the Old Firm clubs doing transfer battle in the months to come.
