Report claims ‘big pay rise’ on horizon for John McGinn who deserves to match £40k-a-week salary

Aston Villa are set to hand John McGinn a ‘bumper’ new contract at Villa Park this summer. That is according to The Scottish Sun. They report that Aston Villa will be handing McGinn a ‘big pay rise’ after his Player of the Season antics at Villa Park last term.

McGinn joined Aston Villa last summer for a fee reported by The Sun to be in the region of £2.75 million.

It is likely his wages are well below some of Aston Villa’s highest earners and the club are clearly aware of the problems that could pose.

As reported by The Sun at the end of last month, Manchester United are big fans of the player and were considering a shock transfer bid for the Scottish international this summer. However, Aston Villa would reportedly demand a £50 million fee for their midfield maestro.

Aston Villa’s first contract reports relating to McGinn emerged last month, as reported by The Mail.

But it certainly appears as though progress has been made and that Aston Villa will be tying McGinn down to a more lucrative deal.

McGinn is an integral part of the current Aston Villa team and his wages should be on par with the likes of Jack Grealish. The Aston Villa star reportedly signed a new £40,000-a-week deal at Villa Park last year, as reported by the Irish independent.

If not, McGinn would be right to be asking serious questions of the hierarchy at Aston Villa.

So hearing that Aston Villa are closing in on a new deal for McGinn should be welcome news. If they can do so, it would be as important as a new signing for Aston Villa.
