Report claims Aston Villa will get their hands on Dean Smith favourite Said Benrahma

Aston Villa may still be getting their hands on Brentford winger Said Benrahma, according to a report over the weekend. The Daily Express is reporting that both Benrahma and Neal Maupay are leaving Brentford before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

Maupay, who was also an Aston Villa target this summer, is set to join Brighton and Hove Albion. Benrahma, according to the report, is heading to Aston Villa.

Of course, this would contradict the most recent reports regarding the Algerian international.

Sky Sports reported at the end of last month that Aston Villa were done when it came to improving a bid for the Brentford star.

They suggested that Aston Villa offered £14 million to Brentford earlier this summer. That offer was turned down and Aston Villa were said to have no intention of going any higher. New recruit Trezeguet was reportedly seen as a suitable alternative.

However, with less than a week to go before the end of the transfer window, it seems Aston Villa might have changed tact.

The club recently allowed Andre Green to join Preston North End on loan so there could be a gap in the squad for Benrahma.

It will remain to be seen if Aston Villa can agree a fee with Brentford for the player, who thrived under the management of Dean Smith last season.
