Report claims Aston Villa unlikely to recall Jake Doyle-Hayes from successful Cheltenham loan spell

Aston Villa youngster Jake Doyle-Hayes is expected to remain at Cheltenham Town for the rest of the season.

The Republic of Ireland youth international was loaned out to Cheltenham in the summer and has become a regular fixture in The Robins midfield.

Chances of first-team football at Aston Villa were sparse after promotion to the Premier League and, therefore, a deal was done which saw Doyle-Hayes head to the League Two side.

As reported by Gloucestershire Live, Doyle-Hayes has impressed in his early performances for the club and Aston Villa will not be activating a pre-arranged recall option for January.

Manager Michael Duff would certainly be pleased if that is the case, as he told the same publication.

“That’s probably a longer conversation than the other three younger ones, who are enjoying their football.

“I’d like to think we can keep them because they are here to develop and they are getting minutes so I’d like to think they’d be definites.”

It is hard to see if Doyle-Hayes has a long-term future at Villa Park. Dean Smith will undoubtedly be keeping tabs on the progress of a player who has often been considered a potential first-team star in the making by fans at Villa Park.

It appears his contract at Aston Villa expires next summer so the 20-year-old will need to continue impressing at Whaddon Road if he is going to find his way into Aston Villa’s first-team picture.
