Aston Villa can now begin negotiations with Galatasaray for defender Christian Luyindama, according to reports in Turkey.

It was reported by Fotomac last week that Aston Villa were keen on the player, who finished last season on loan at Galatasaray from Standard Liege.

However, no negotiations could realistically take place between the Istanbul and Birmingham, as Luyindama was not yet a Galatasaray player.

That has now changed. As reported by Star, Galatasaray have paid €5 million (£4.6m) to activate a permanent option in the DR Congo international’s contract.

They also report that Aston Villa have now made a formal offer for the player in the region of €12 million (£11m).

Of course, Aston Villa fans will be skeptical regarding these reports. The club has already significantly strengthened at centre-back. Loanees Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause were signed permanently whilst Ezri Konsa and Bjorn Engels have also headed to Villa Park this summer.

But Luyindama is versatile and can also operate in midfield so it could be Aston Villa see him as a potential utility option. Time will tell if Aston Villa do continue their spending spree by bringing in the 25-year-old this summer.
