Arsenal held talks with Jorge Mendes regarding Nuno Espirito Santo before Mikel Arteta started to get the Gunners back on track, according to a report from The Sun.
The report claims that the Wolves boss may be considering his options – although it is noted that he remains content at Molineux. He only signed a new contract with the club in September.
Interestingly, Mendes has reportedly been on the lookout for another Premier League job for the Portuguese.
And The Sun claims that the agent held talks with Arsenal about Nuno. It is not made completely clear when the discussions were held. But the reference to the Gunners’ upturn in form would suggest that they had been in some sort of contact until fairly recently.
The report adds that Mendes will continue to monitor any opportunities that come up in the Premier League.
TBR View: Nuno links may remind Arteta of pressure
Arsenal have looked a lot more impressive in recent weeks. In fact, it is easy to forget how bleak their situation was before they beat Chelsea in December.
Of course, much may depend on how seriously Arsenal were involved in talks with Mendes. There is a possibility that the agent made the approach and the Gunners simply decided to keep their options open.
But Arsenal being linked with another Premier League manager may leave Arteta with something to think about.
He will be under no illusions about the task ahead anyway. But it arguably further highlights how ruthless clubs can be when things are not going to plan.
