Reports in France are suggesting that Everton and Paris Saint-Germain have come to an agreement over the transfer of Idrissa Gana Gueye.

Le Parisien is claiming PSG will pay €32 million (£28.7 million) for the Senegalese captain this summer, ending a long-running transfer saga.

It will, of course, be unwelcome news on a footballing front for Everton.

However, in terms of business, Everton have done very well with Gueye.

Gueye was signed by former director of football Steve Walsh. It came after a poor season for Aston Villa in which they were relegated. However, Gueye still topped many of the statistical charts and Everton took a risk on a reported (The Guardian) £7.1 million deal for Gueye.

He has gone on to establish himself as one of Everton’s best players and the club are now set to sell him at the height of his value.

Gueye turns 30 this season, which will instantly see his value diminish. Everton are set to make a profit of £21.6 million on the player. According to the Birmingham Mail, Everton also have no sell-on clause with Aston Villa for the player. It seems Everton get to keep all that money to themselves.

Now Walsh, on the whole, did not prove beneficial for Everton. The club have clearly made a loss on the likes of Ashley Williams, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez. However, whilst Everton fans will be sad to see him go, the business done on Gueye can certainly be applauded.
