According to The Daily Mail, Christian Eriksen will snub the chance to leave Tottenham Hotspur in January. Spurs want to sell Eriksen and believe they can get £30m for the midfielder in the January transfer window.

But Eriksen has other plans. Instead of leaving in January, Eriksen wants to run down his Tottenham contract and leave on a free transfer in the summer. This way, he will receive a more lucrative contract and a large signing-on bonus.

The Denmark midfielder has been linked with a Spurs exit for a while now as his contract expires next summer. Real Madrid and Barcelona are both mentioned in this report as potential destinations.

Eriksen’s form has been poor this season and Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly “annoyed” that he is still a Tottenham player. However, any attempt to ship the 27-year-old in January will be blocked by the player.

TBR’s view

Tottenham should have sold Eriksen in the summer and Daniel Levy might pay the price. As per this report, Eriksen was valued at £100m in the summer and that has already dropped to £30m.

But Spurs risk losing him for free and it seems Eriksen is ready to squeeze every last penny out of North London before making his dream move. Tottenham are the main losers in this scenario as they will have to pay a player who clearly doesn’t want to be there for the whole season before losing him for nothing.
