Aston Villa could have to pay £40 million for Ross Barkley, with 90min reporting that Dean Smith’s men are keen to make his loan permanent this summer.
Barkley has been an outstanding signing for the Villans this season. The 27-year-old has scored three times in the Premier League.

But he has caused problems in so many games since arriving at Villa Park. And unsurprisingly, it appears that Smith would like to have him in his ranks next season.
According to a report from 90min, Villa want to sign Barkley permanently from Chelsea. However, it is noted that they will have to break their transfer record to sign him.

The report also notes that it is not yet clear what Thomas Tuchel makes of Barkley’s future. He, of course, only recently took over from Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
But if he is happy to let him leave, it would be a real coup for Villa to keep Barkley. He looks to be back to his best, playing alongside Jack Grealish in one of the most exciting teams in the division.
Villa have a fantastic opportunity to secure a superb finish in the league this year. And with that, Smith will surely get the funds to make a couple of major statements in the transfer market.
Making Barkley’s move permanent would certainly be a significant statement – particularly as he will apparently cost around £40 million.
