Chelsea are reportedly preparing an offer of £40 million+ for West Ham United star Declan Rice.
The Blues are said to be confident of landing the England international, with The Sun reporting the club feel West Ham are ‘desperate’ for cash.
The publication claim Chelsea will lodge a formal bid in excess of £40 million before the October 5 deadline.
West Ham have previously stood firm over Rice, who is the club’s biggest asset.
It has been claimed funds are tight at the London Stadium, so it could be that the club need funds from a Rice sale for transfers.
Academy graduate Rice is hugely popular at the club though, and any departure for him after grady Diangana would be controversial.
TBR’s View – West Ham should reject lowball offer
West Ham need to reject any Chelsea offer of around £40 million, even if they do need the cash.
Rice has massive potential and the player is surely worth more than that.
If the club are to let him go, it needs to be for a premium price given his importance within the starting XI.
The fans are already digruntled from the Diangana sale; allowing Rice to leave for less than his true worth would be unforgivable in many fans’ eyes.
