Report: Chelsea now offered chance to sign ‘world class’ player just weeks after Tottenham Hotspur launched bid

Chelsea have now been offered the chance to sign Bercelona’s Memphis Depay, reports the Evening Standard. And it comes just weeks after Tottenham Hotspur reportedly launched a bid to sign him.

Reports suggested that Spurs made a bid to sign the 28-year-old just over two weeks ago but now the striker has apparently been offered to their London rivals.

AS Sport said that Tottenham’s bid was worth around £14 million for the forward, who appears to be up for sale.

The ‘world class’ Depay looks to have been frozen out of Camp Nou after Barca have added Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha to Xavi’s attack already this summer.

The Spanish club have also renewed Ousmane Dembele’s contract and now Depay may be set to move on as he has fallen down the pecking order at Barca.

Chelsea offered chance to sign Depay

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for the Dutchman this summer but now Chelsea could take the chance to beat their rivals to signing him.

The Evening Standard reports that Depay is one of three players who have been offered to Chelsea, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong

It’s unclear whether the Blues will take the La Liga club up on their offers but if they take Depay, it could be a blow for Spurs.

The Holland international actually finished as the club’s top scorer last season but finds himself on the verge of being forced out of the Catalan club.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Depay is currently in talks with Barca over leaving the club for free as they try to find potential suitors for him.

And it seems that Xavi’s men are already putting the wheels into motion as they have offered the Dutchman to Chelsea.

If the forward does leave Barcelona on a free transfer, then you would think that an array of top clubs will be interested in him.

Depay previously had an underwhelming spell in the Premier League at Manchester United but has improved massively as a player since.

The Dutchman would certainly add quality and depth to both Spurs and Chelsea’s frontlines if either club made a move for him.

The Blues may need Depay slightly more than Spurs though as Conte has already added Richarlison to his attack this summer. But Chelsea may opt for Aubameyang over Depay due to Thomas Tuchel’s past relationship with the player during their time at Borussia Dortmund.
