Report: Chelsea make official bid for Manchester United linked player

Chelsea are stepping up their attempts to sign Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez, according to Fabrizio Romano. The midfielder is a wanted man, with Manchester United also keen on the 26-year-old.

The Blues have made an official offer to Los Rojiblancos. Thomas Tuchel is keen to sign the player on loan with an obligation included in the deal to buy him next summer.

Chelsea have already added the big-money signing of Romelu Lukaku to their ranks during the transfer window. The Belgian cost £97.5 million from Inter and opened his account at the weekend.

Now, Tuchel is keen to bolster his midfield ranks. There is already a plethora of talent on display at Stamford Bridge but the boss clearly wants more.

Niguez has proved a stalwart for Atletico Madrid. Last season he helped them to the La Liga title and in total, he’s played 339 times in Diego Simeone’s team.

Losing him would be a big blow to Atletico. They will hope to defend their title this season and Niguez is clearly an instrumental player.

Following the arrival of Rodrigo De Paul, however, it would seem as though Simeone is willing to do business with Chelsea this summer.

Saul Niguez could be quality addition to Chelsea ranks

The midfielder is energetic, hardworking and boasts some real quality. Arguably, he provides the Chelsea engine room with attributes that Tuchel doesn’t currently have at his disposal.

Chelsea look to have an embarrassment of riches this season. The club looks to have a real desire to lift the Premier League title and Niguez could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.

Tuchel’s team look like a formidable force this season. They may have thrown some money at it, but they are adding players the squad needs.

Niguez earns in the region of £200,000-a-week and Chelsea could get the very best out of him in the Premier League if they can strike a deal.
