Chelsea are looking to put Liverpool under pressure when it comes to signing Turkish goalkeeper, Ugurcan Cakir.
The Blues are, according to the Daily Mail, prepared to move for Cakir and give up on Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Any move from Frank Lampard’s men would scupper the hopes of Liverpool and Sheffield United, who have both been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.
Cakir has been in fine form for Trabzonspor this season. He’s helped guide the Turkish side to within touching distance of landing the title in what is a tense fight at the top.
Just a single point separates the top four. Indeed, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are all level on 48 points in the Super Lig.
The form of Cakir, though, has been a standout in the league. Trabzonspor have conceded just 24 goals in 22 games with Cakir in goal. Indeed, such form has seen Cakir help his team to seven wins in their last eight fixtures.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have been unimpressed with Kepa at times both this season and in the past.
He endured the wrath of former manager, Maurizio Sarri when he refused to be substituted in the cup final. Although, this was something Kepa denied doing at the time.
Cakir worth the gamble for both clubs – TBR View
While Liverpool aren’t going to be replacing Alisson any time soon, the mistake from Adrian in midweek showed they still have problems with their number two position.
Cakir, then, makes perfect sense as a new signing. At only 23, he can learn a lot from the Brazilian and be part of a busy schedule where he’ll get plenty of minutes.
For Chelsea, on the other hand, it puts even more pressure on Kepa. The club invested a huge sum in the Spaniard so it’s hard to see them giving up on him entirely.
However, if they do sign Cakir, then Kepa won’t be too impressed you’d think.
Either way and for either club, it looks like Cakir would represent a fine piece of business.
