Report: Chelsea and Liverpool join race to sign Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Football website 90Min have claimed that Liverpool and Chelsea have joined the race to sign Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of the summer window, as the Gabonese ace’s future continues to remain in doubt.

Aubameyang, 30, is set to enter the final 12 months of his current Arsenal contract and there are fears that the player could leave in a similar fashion to Aaron Ramsey. The Wales star left last summer on a free transfer, moving to Juventus.

Despite question marks over his future, the Arsenal skipper has scored an impressive 20 goals in 32 league and cup outings for the north London side. It remains to be seen whether Aubameyang would swap Arsenal for another Premier League side.

The ex-AC Milan star was linked with Manchester United earlier on this week by The Sun, who claim he could be signed for £50million. Now, Arsenal and Chelsea have joined the race for Aubameyang, but Barcelona are likely to lead the way.

TBR’s view – Which move is best for Aubameyang?

So, Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are all interested in signing Aubameyang as per reports. Remaining at Arsenal is also an option, but they lack Champions League football.

Chelsea and Manchester United remain in the fight for Champions League football, but both teams could end up qualifying for the competition with United one of the favourites to win the Europa League.

At Liverpool, he would be second choice – as he would at Barcelona. At United or Chelsea, he would be first choice. Would he swap Arsenal for a direct Premier League rival? It remains to be seen.

However, his relationship with Klopp may put Liverpool into pole, with his ex-Dortmund manager telling the Liverpool Echo that Aubameyang is unbelievable: “Oh, Auba…. yes, the biggest threat: speed and goal threat. It’s unbelievable.”
