Report: Championship club to consider move for Everton youngster

Everton youngster Bassala Sambou will be considered by Blackburn Rovers, according to The Lancashire Telegraph.

The striker has emerged as a possible target for manager Tony Mowbray, who has worked with the 21-year-old at Coventry City.

Mowbray is understood to want competition for Danny Graham and Ben Brereton in attack, and the Toffees prospect apparently fits the bill.

Sambou has just finished off a great season with the Everton U23s, scoring 11 goals in PL2 on the way to a league title.

The Hannover-born forward hasn’t agreed a new deal at Goodison Park and could well be an option for Rovers this summer.

The Championship outfit have been monitoring Sambou for some time, with The Sun reporting on their interest last term.

TBR’s view

Sambou is yet to turn out for the Everton first-team and the fact no extension has been agreed suggests his future lies away from Goodison Park.

If Sambou was going to make it, 2018/19 would have been his time – earlier in the season the Toffees really floundered up top, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun both struggling to show consistency.

Englishman Calvert-Lewin greatly improved towards the end of the season and Everton have been linked with other strikers, Danny Welbeck being the latest (The Sun).

Henry Onyekuru could yet return to Merseyside to play a part for Marco Silva next term, so the time could be right for Sambou to move on.
