Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport have claimed that Champions League side Lazio want to sign Rangers attacker Ianis Hagi this summer – and that it would require a bargain fee of just £8.5million to sign him.

Hagi, 22, has been excellent for Rangers during their title-winning campaign despite being on the fringes of the starting XI at times. During his 38 league and cup outings this term, he has been involved in 19 goals.

Scoring seven and creating 12 more, the Romania international has produced that impressive goal return despite starting only 29 times and completing 90 minutes on just seven occasions. His form has not gone unnoticed.

Indeed, Lazio – who were knocked out of the Champions League by Lazio in the last 16 round – are keen on luring Hagi to Italy. The report claims that Rangers would accept offers of £8.5million for the playmaker.

TBR’s view – Hagi is class, Rangers should keep if they can

But given Steven Gerrard’s side have invested heavily over the past few seasons – and not really sold any of their players for big money, they might now have to do so in order to balance the books. Hagi would present profit.

Rangers spent just £4million to land Hagi from Genk less than a year ago and selling him for £8.5million would see them gain more than double their initial outlay. But is he worth more to Rangers than that fee?

A question Gerrard and Rangers must answer themselves.
