Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Dayot Upamecano is believed to have been crossed off as a potential target for Bayern Munich, according to Tribuna.
The Sun have previously suggested that the 21-year-old defender could be the subject of Tottenham’s interest, after Jose Mourinho was spotted at RB Leipzig’s match against Bayern Munich earlier this month.
With Jan Vertonghen’s Tottenham contract expiring at the end of the season and the overall defensive performances not particularly rock solid this term, Spurs could potentially find themselves in the market for a new central defender in the summer.
Upamecano has made 19 Bundesliga appearances this season for Leipzig, playing the full 90 minutes in each game since coming back from a knee injury against Werder Bremen on 21 September (Transfermarkt).

Along with Tottenham’s reported interest, North London arch-rivals Arsenal have also been linked with the 21-year-old’s services (Daily Mail), as have Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
However, Tribuna claims that the Bavarians have been put off making a move for Upamecano due to his €60million (£51million) release clause, reportedly not being prepared to pay that amount of money.
TBR View:
Though Tottenham and their fans weren’t able to get a look at Upamecano in their Champions League last-16 first-leg defeat due to suspension, there is no doubting his importance to a side just one point behind Bayern in the Bundesliga table.
Upamecano would be a huge boost to the Tottenham back line, possessing great size, aerial ability and pace, although whether he would break into Tottenham’s team over Davinson Sanchez or Toby Alderweireld is very much up for debate.
Nonetheless, Bayern reportedly cooling their interest in the Frenchman would be great news for Spurs and any other suitors, given the Allianz Arena side being such a big draw for Germany-based players.
