Report: Champions League club now consider moving to sign 'incredible' Liverpool player
Liverpool central midfielder Naby Keita is now being considered by Barcelona for a potential transfer swoop.
Sport claim that Keita is among a list of players with dwindling contract situations under consideration at the Nou Camp.
Their financial issues are well-known and Barca are looking at players with not very long left on their contract to try and get bargains.
Keita’s current contract runs out at the end of the season, with the 27-year-old yet to play this season due to injury problems.
Barcelona consider Keita
Those fitness problems have plagued Keita throughout his time at Anfield, which have stopped him putting a run of form together.
They also make the decision over a new deal a tricky one, because they may be reluctant to lose him for free this summer.
That said, tying down a player just to try and preserve their transfer value is often not a good idea, and it might be time for Liverpool to let Keita go.
Last season, after the Champions League semi-final first leg win over Villarreal, Jurgen Klopp told the club’s official website: “It is his (Naby Keita’s) best season because he is, for the longest period, fit – and that’s good for us, that’s good for him.
“He is an outstanding player and that was always clear. Even in other seasons when he was not that consistently fit, he played incredible games.
“If you go back and watch our big games, you will realise how often Naby was on the pitch in these games. A very good, very good, moment for him.”
But the progress has stalled since then, and perhaps Barcelona will be his new home, although it seems he is one of a number of potential Nou Camp options as it stands.
