Report: Cenk Tosun to leave Everton in January, if situation does not improve

Turkish outlet Hurriyet has claimed that Everton striker Cenk Tosun is unhappy as he continues to be frozen out of the Toffees side by Marco Silva, and is said to be willing to leave in January – if his situation remains dour at that point.

Tosun, 28, has managed just 16 minutes of action all season – coming on as a late subtitute in the Carabao Cup win over Lincoln City. He has made the bench in just three of Everton’s five Premier League outings.

Despite scoring a brace for Turkey during the international break, Tosun was left out of the 18-man squad that travelled south to take on Bournemouth. The Cherries prospered, securing a 3-1 win over Silva’s side.

Former Besiktas striker Tosun, who has three years left on his £60,000-a-week Everton contract (Spotrac), is said to be upset that he is being left out despite Everton’s striker woes – and will leave in January if the situation remains.

TBR’s view – Everton need to let Tosun leave the club

An expensive flop, Tosun has found the back of the net just nine goals in 44 league and cup outings. His £27million fee, along with his huge wages – which is worth more than £3million a year – means Everton have got to cash in.

A return to Turkey is likely to be on the cards, with Medipol Basaksehir said to be keen. Tosun perhaps deserves a chance, but Everton will know that they are better off cashing in for the Turkey international.
