Celtic are set to lose out to Bayern Munich once again, with youngster Barry Hepburn reportedly set to sign a deal with the Bundesliga champions this summer.

The Scotland under-17 starlet is set to agree terms with the German giants, with Bild reporting a deal is close to being announced.

It’s another bitterly disappointing loss for Celtic, who view Hepburn as one of the top up and coming Scottish talents at the moment.

The news comes amid rumours from the same report that Bayern are also set to sign Hearts youngster, Aaron Hickey. The defender has been a long-term target for Celtic and Neil Lennon but now appears to on the way to Germany as well.

Celtic will not be wanting to get used to losing young players. They lost Liam Morrison last summer to Bayern, while the Scottish Sun claims that Hepburn has even rejected a contract offer from the Bhoys in favour of a move overseas.

This is not ideal and just goes to show the power that some of the giants of Europe have. While there’s no details on contract terms, you’d imagine Bayern are offering something Celtic simply cannot match.

Furthermore, the experience of playing in Europe is something young players could find invaluable. In addition, young English stars like Jadon Sancho have flourished in the Bundesliga.

But Neil Lennon won’t want this to become a habit. It’s important for Celtic to keep their best players. That extends into the youth system, too.

Missing out on Hickey at the same time is just another nail in the coffin as well for the Hoops.
