The Telegraph have claimed that Celtic are keen on signing Wolfsberger AC striker Shon Weissman this summer if Odsonne Edouard leaves the Scottish champions, which will come as good news to both Arsenal and Tottenham.
Weissman, 24, has been in stunning form for Europa League side Wolfsberger – netting a huge 29 goals in 30 appearances. The Austrian side’s number nine has four caps for Israel, and has scored against both Roma and Gladbach this season.
Celtic are desperate to keep Edouard, but the striker is being linked with a move south after he netted 27 goals and laid on 19 assists in 46 Celtic appearances last season. The Telegraph report states Arsenal are keen.
Meanwhile, a report from The Sunday Times claims Tottenham have been scouting 22-year-old Edouard throughout the 2019-20 campaign. Celtic lining up Weissman is a boost for both London clubs in their pursuit of Edouard, then.
TBR’s view – Celtic must do everything they can to keep Edouard
But if he does leave, Weissman is a stunning replacement. Neil Lennon is renowned for bringing Israeli players to the club, having signed Nir Bitton, Hatem Abd-Elhamed, Beram Kayal and more.
Unlike the aforementioned players, though, Weissman has proved he is already more than capable of scoring goals at a very strong level with strikes against Roma and Gladbach in the Europa League.
Whether he is worth pursuing is down to his price tag, but to have scored 29 goals in 30 games in Austria and the Europa League, he certainly has to be a decent addition.
