Celtic are amongst the group of clubs monitoring Lewis Gibson’s situation at Everton, according to a report from the Liverpool Echo.

It is suggested that the 19-year-old is looking for assurances regarding his future on Merseyside. But his potential availability has seemingly put a number of clubs on alert.

The Liverpool Echo reports that League One side Fleetwood Town – of course, managed by former Rangers midfielder Joey Barton – are keen on signing Gibson on loan this month. Ipswich Town and Rotherham also want a temporary deal for the teenager.

Meanwhile, the report suggests that the Hoops are also joined by the likes of Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar and clubs in Germany in the race for Gibson’s signature.

TBR View – Convincing Gibson to leave Everton won’t be easy for Celtic

On paper, you could understand why a youngster at Everton may be tempted by a club like Celtic. Gibson has not made his first-team debut for the Toffees. And the Hoops arguably need more depth in that area of the field.

But Everton also lack numbers in that position. And with Carlo Ancelotti only just coming in, every player within the squad will have questions about their role under the new boss.

Joining Celtic will arguably be an attractive option if talks with Everton break down. There is a path to the first-team and European football is on offer.

But it must surely also be an incredibly exciting time to be with the Toffees.
