Report: Celtic want £8.9m-rated Christopher Jullien to replace Dedryck Boyata

Celtic will be seeking a new centre-back this summer. According to French media outlet L’Equipe, Christopher Jullien is on Celtic’s radar.

With Dedryck Boyata moving to Hertha Berlin and Filip Benkovic’s loan spell expiring, Celtic need at least one new central defender this summer.

Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer were the two centre-backs preferred by Neil Lennon. But Jack Hendry and Marvin Compper are not deemed suitable back-up options.

Celtic’s search for a new centre-half has led them to the French top division. Jullien is the latest Celtic defensive target.

The towering 6ft 5in defender currently plays for Toulouse. He played 35 games for Toulouse last season, taking his total tally to 108 at the French club.

Jullien has also played for Dijon and Auxerre, as well as spending time in Germany with Freiburg. But his next challenge could be Scotland.

Celtic are keen on the 26-year-old, who is valued between €8m and €10m by Toulouse. This means that Celtic will be paying between £7m and £8.9m for Jullien.

TBR’s view

Jullien is vastly experienced in France and has been playing in the top flight there. He should have the physical attributes to thrive in the Scottish league.

Paying up to £9m may be a sizeable outlay but Jullien could prove to be a masterstroke. The former France U20 international would push Ajer and Simunovic for starting spots.
