Celtic are considering a move to sign Hamburg youngster Stephan Ambrosius during the summer transfer window, according to German news outlet BILD.

The Hoops are getting ready to pounce with contract discussions between Ambrosius and Hamburg stalling.

The centre-back has played six games in the German second tier this season. He was on the bench as Hamburg lost their first league game of 2020/21 at the weekend.

Ambrosius is a product of the club’s youth academy and having made his debut last season, is now considered a first-team regular.

His contract will be up in the summer though with no new deal yet to be agreed between the player and the German club.

The report claims that the Hoops aren’t totally against completing a deal to purchase the player in January.

Any fee at that stage would be relatively small but it could see the defender make an impact in Scotland this season.

Celtic are 11 points behind Rangers as they bid to complete a tenth Scottish Premiership title in succession.

TBR View – Ambrosius could represent attractive signing

The 21-year-old is at a great age to provide Celtic with optimism that he could become a star in the future.

Kristoffer Ajer has been linked with a move away from the club and that could see Lennon in need of another centre-back.

Christopher Jullien is currently nursing a back problem right now and another defender would certainly bolster the squad.

Ambrosius would surely relish the challenge of trying to qualify for the Champions League with Celtic and has some real quality.

He is good on the ball, quick and very strong in the tackle.

Ambrosius is rated very highly in Germany and for a small fee, Celtic might be wise to step up their interest in January.
