According to Tokyo Sports, Celtic are interested in signing Kawasaki Frontale forward Kaoru Mitoma, but there’s a problem.
What’s the story?
Well, the Japanese news outlet believe Ange Postecoglou is keen to be reunited with Mitoma, who he managed at Yokohama F. Marinos.
Tokyo Sports write that the 23-year-old scored 18 goals in 37 games last season, and impressed as a newcomer with his ‘proud’ dribbling ability.
So, what’s the problem?
Well, Tokyo Sports believe he already has an agreement in place with Brighton.
Mitoma doesn’t have a work permit, so he will be sent on loan to Royal Union Saint-Giroise in Belgium before his career in England begins.

While this will come as a bit of a blow to Celtic, it isn’t over yet.
The deal is yet to be announced, and as aforesaid, Postecoglou knows the attacker from their time together at Yokohama F. Marinos.
In that respect, he could have the contacts to perform a U-turn.
Encouraging news nonetheless
If Mitoma does join Brighton, it will be a shame.
However, this is encouraging news for Celtic.

It’s far more pleasing to see exciting, young and prolific names like Mitoma linked with moves to Celtic Park, rather than older players on their way down, like Shane Duffy.
If this is the type of profile Postecoglou will be targeting, the Celtic supporters should be feeling very positive indeed.
