Italian website Il Milanista have claimed that Celtic have been told they will have to splash out £7million to sign left-footed loanee Diego Laxalt – with the Scottish champions said to be keen to keep the Uruguayan.
Laxalt, 27, has clocked up 18 appearances in all competitions since joining Celtic – battling with Greg Taylor for the left-back berth. He has already helped the Hoops win silverware, lifting last season’s Scottish Cup.
The South American is seemingly surplus to requirements at Milan and sporting director Paolo Maldini is willing to offload the former Genoa man for just £7million. Such a figure would make him joint second in terms of transfers.
Odsonne Edouard remains the club’s record signing at £9million, while Christopher Jullien cost £7million. Chris Sutton and John Hartson both cost £6million (Bleacher Report) – meaning a deal for Laxalt would eclipse that.
TBR’s view – Laxalt is yet to his his best, £7m a good deal
Laxalt can be Celtic’s solution to their left-back issues since Kieran Tierney left the club from Arsenal. He has endured a tricky start, with his Hoops form coinciding with the club’s overall run of results.
But he has the ability to replace Tierney and solve the left-back conundrum. At £7million, he is expensive but it is hardly a figure Celtic would struggle to be able to pay. It is a good deal, given Laxalt will only get better.
